Spicy, sweet, fried and absolutely DELICIOUS! No more convincing needed.
Similarly to the teriyaki fried tofu, this version is just as yummy in a Buddha bowl, just some rice, or, if you’re like me, you could eat the entire pan by yourself. Try it and you’ll see what I mean!
During a recent “Buddha bowl” night, as I was cooking, I remember a taste that I suddenly missed so much from Asian cuisine. I wanted something spicy, I wanted something sweet, and what I got was exactly that! This is a must make recipe! Just make sure that you set some aside for yourself because they get eaten up real quick!
Recipe Details
Ingredients for Tofu:
14oz of extra firm tofu
2 Tablespoons of cornstarch
1 Tablespoon of vegetable oil
Ingredients for Sauce:
4 tablespoons of Sambal Oelek
1/2 tablespoon of sesame oil
1/2 a lime
2 Teaspoons of brown sugar
2 garlic cloves minced
1/2 tablespoon of rice wine vinegar
3 tablespoons of water
1 Tablespoon of cornstarch
Description:
1. Press excess water out of the tofu with paper towels or rags, then slice tofu into ½ inch cubes. Sprinkle 2 T of cornstarch over the top of the tofu and gently toss with your hands so the tofu is coated lightly in the cornstarch.
2. In a large skillet start heating up your 1 Tablespoon of vegetable oil on medium to high heat.
3. Once the oil has heated up add the tofu and let it brown on all sides. While the tofu is browning, whisk the all the other ingredients for the sauce together.
4. Once the tofu has browned evenly, add the sauce to the pan. Once the liquid is added to the pan, it becomes very sticky quick, so continue to mix. Toss the tofu around to coat thoroughly, remove from heat, garnish with sesame seeds and green onions should you choose and you're ready to serve!
